Meet Craig
Craig’s life has been defined by leadership, service to others, and the courage to stand up for what matters. From his early days as an Eagle Scout in Iowa to the mayor’s office in Hudson, he has been guided by faith, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to conservative values.
Ohio House of Representatives
34 th District
In 2019, Craig was elected mayor on a platform of transparency, accountability, and commonsense governance. He made history as Hudson’s first mayor to be elected without previously serving on city council, and the first to unseat a sitting mayor.
Craig focused on results. He championed infrastructure improvements, enhanced rail and roadway safety, and worked to reign in excessive spending and government overreach. He supported local businesses and economic vitality by approving COVID-era initiatives.
During his time in office, Craig faced profound personal loss when his wife of nearly 22 years died of cancer. Days later, he demonstrated the courage to lead during difficult times when he took a principled stand in defense of parents and students by boldly calling out the inappropriate sexual content in school classrooms and libraries. His actions to protect our community values earned him international attention and the respect of millions of Americans who believe parents deserve a voice in their children’s education.
Today, Craig has found renewed purpose and joy. He is happily married to Brigitte, a graduate of Case Western Reserve University. Together, they share a deep commitment to public policy, civic engagement, and the future of Ohio.
Craig Shubert remains dedicated to serving the people of Ohio and fighting for the principles that built this nation — responsible government, strong communities, economic opportunity, and the freedom for families to chart their own future. With steady leadership, tested experience, and unwavering values, Craig believes the best days for the 34th House District, Ohio, — and for America — still lie ahead.
Craig’s leadership ability emerged early. Active in Scouting, he earned the God and Country Award, and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. As sports editor of his high school newspaper, Craig developed a passion for journalism that would lead to a career in media. While at Iowa State University, he was significant contributor to The Associated Press and United Press International. His work caught the eye of a first-term congressman Charles Grassley – now president pro tempore of the United States Senate – who offered Craig a job on Capitol Hill.
Craig became a television news reporter, anchor, and bureau chief following college. His wide-ranging work included contributions to ABC, CNN, ITN, NBC, and TNN during an era when integrity and ethics ruled the newsroom.
Craig would go on to become an accomplished global business development leader, change agent, and growth strategist. Working with companies, ranging from entrepreneurial ventures to Fortune 500 organizations, he opened new revenue streams in 65 countries, established two foreign operating units, and placed product aboard the U.S. Space Shuttle Discovery and the Russian Space Station Mir — proof that American ingenuity can reach beyond the limits of Earth itself.
His work also took him around the world. Craig has traveled to 31 countries, engaging with business leaders and heads of state. These experiences strengthened his belief that America’s strength begins at home — with strong families, strong communities, and responsible leadership.
